On June 10th, Kaitryn Pelnik-Wadsworth was honored at Carnegie Hall in New York City for her architectural drawing, Bristol Center - Guest Rooms- Hamilton College.

Kaitryn received a National Scholastic Art & Writing Gold Medal for her amazing work, and was invited to attend a multi-day event in New York City along with the other Gold Medal winners. Of the 335,000 Scholastic Art entries from around the country, only 600 earned Gold Medals and were invited to Carnegie Hall for the ceremony. That puts Kaitryn in elite company; less than .5% of entries are awarded this top honor! Kaitryn and her AP Art teacher, Mr. Vaughn, were fortunate to make the trip to be a part of this inspiring event in celebration of the Arts!

Congratulations to Kaitryn and all her teachers in the New Hartford Art Department for this incredible accomplishment.

New Hartford CSD's MMichael Butler make history!!!

"Fifth Grader, Mikey Butler, has become New York’s first-ever two-time Trinity Award winner in youth wrestling—one of the sport’s most difficult and prestigious accomplishments. He secured this milestone by winning Reno Worlds in Reno, NV this past weekend, capturing the final piece needed to earn the Trinity. Reno Worlds featured elite competition from nearly all 50 states, as well as international athletes from Spain, Tokyo, Russia, Japan, and Italy.

The Trinity Award, presented by World of Wrestling, is earned only by wrestlers who win all three of the nation’s most competitive youth tournaments in a single season: Tulsa Nationals, Reno Worlds, and the WOW Kickoff Classic. Winning just one of these events is a major feat—winning all three in the same year requires an exceptional level of skill, consistency, and mental toughness.

To put this into perspective, only five youth wrestlers from New York have ever won the Trinity Award even once. Mikey has now done it twice—setting himself apart not just in our state, but across the entire country.

In addition to this milestone, Mikey is currently ranked #1 in the nation by World of Wrestling in his age and weight division (10U, 80 lbs), further solidifying his place among the elite young wrestlers in the United States."

Congratulations, Mikey!

The New Hartford Senior High School Club America group hosted a food drive for Feed Our Veterans from April 23–27 in the high school lobby. Throughout the week, club members engaged with students and faculty to collect a generous amount of food to support the Veterans Outreach Center in Utica.
Pictured are the club’s officers alongside several veterans at the center. The experience was both meaningful and educational for everyone involved, and the club looks forward to continuing its efforts to support local veterans through future food drives.

New Hartford Pride: Alexandria French Appointed to West Point
We are incredibly proud to celebrate a historic milestone for one of our own. New Hartford student Alexandria French has received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, marking a monumental achievement for both Alexandria and our entire school community.

A Premier Distinction
Alexandria’s path to the Academy is marked by an exceptional level of merit. Out of a highly competitive pool of applicants, she was selected as Congressman Mannion’s Principal Nominee, the highest recommendation a candidate can receive from their congressional representative.
The road to West Point is famously rigorous:
Selective Admissions: Approximately 13,000 students apply annually.
Elite Cohort: Only about 1,200 applicants are accepted into the incoming class.

Fluffy the Robotic Dog - Visits Hughes Students

On Friday, January 16, 2026, students in grades 4–6 enjoyed an exciting and educational visit from Fluffy, a robotic dog from the Air Force Research Base in Rome, and his handler, Dr. Dave.

Dr. Dave shared information about the many jobs available in his industry, including engineers, programmers, scientists, and technicians who work together to design, build, and operate advanced technology like Fluffy.

Students were especially interested in learning what Fluffy can do. Dr. Dave demonstrated how Fluffy can walk, balance, respond to commands, and navigate different environments. He explained that robot dogs like Fluffy are used in combat for dangerous situations to help protect human lives.

The visit sparked thoughtful questions, curiosity, and excitement about future careers in STEM fields. It was a memorable experience that helped students see how classroom learning connects to real-world problem solving and innovation.

A big thank-you to Dr. Dave for bringing Fluffy to Hughes!

The Latin Club visits the Grapevine Restaurant in New Hartford to Celebrate the Roman Holiday of Saturnalia

The Latin club voted to go to a local restaurant to celebrate the Roman December holiday of Saturnalia, which predated Christmas. Eighteen students and two adults had a wonderful meal at the Grapevine Restaurant in New Hartford. Club members feasted on Gyro meat, rice, salad, humus, bread, sauce, soda, and baklava. Several students had never tried Mediterranian food before and all enjoyed themselves! The club fundraises by selling candy to raise money for such events so that the students can participate for free.

Latin Club Visits Amherst Central High School to Compete!!!!

On Saturday, November 8th twenty-five Latin students went to Amherst Central High School, in Buffalo, NY to compete in a series of physical and academic competitions. These events happen twice a year and adheres to the Roman quote “Mens sana, in corpore sano” [a healthy mind in a healthy body] from the satirist Juevnal. They competed in ping-pong, volleyball, chess, certamen (a jeopardy style four-person team game that is very competitive and covers mythology, history, translation, pronunciation, Latin grammar, derivatives, and culture), oratory, poster contest, t-shirt contest, as well as academic tests in Mythology, Derivatives, Latin Vocabulary, Roman Civilization, and Pentathlon.

There were around 250 students from twelve schools in eight school districts: Orchard Park, Amherst, Geneva, Skaneateles, Pittsford, East Aurora, St. John BOSCO, and New Hartford. Latin 1 student Joe Carlesimo designed our Latin Club t-shirts which won first place in the t-shirt contes. In the Junior High Chess tournament, first place went to Joe Carlesimo and third place to Teddy Reale, an Intro to Latin student. Anna Zhang, a Latin 2 student, won second place in the Latin 2 Oratory contest. Joe Carlesimo won first place in the poster contest as well. Members also won ribbons on all the academic tests competing against students of their own Latin experience level. Kevin Wu, an Intro to Latin student, won first place for Level ½ academic contests in Pentathlon and Roman Civilization along with second place in Mythology. Gayle Brooks tied for third place in the Vocabulary contest for Level 2. Anna Zhang won 1st place in the Derivatives academic contest for Level 2. Abby Gioppo won second place in the Level 2 Roman Civilization contest as a Latin three student, as that class doesn’t start until Spring Semester.
