The New York State Council of School Superintendents (NYCOSS) recently recognized New Hartford Central School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Cosimo Tangorra, Jr. for the professional contributions he’s made throughout his career.

During NYCOSS’s Winter Institute annual conference held in March, Dr. Tangorra received the 2024 Appreciation Award.

The peer-nominated award recognizes superintendents whose leadership and contributions throughout their career has had a positive impact on the council, its members and the entire profession, according to NYCOSS.

”There is no higher praise than that of your peers,” said Dr. Tangorra during the opening keynote of the conference. “It is an honor to work with our strategic partners, council staff and my colleague superintendents in an effort to ensure that every student is successful.”

Dr. Tangorra has served the district for more than two years and has more than 20 years of experience as a superintendent. He has been a member of NYCOSS for more than 22 years.

NYCOSS was established in 1883 and is a professional organization for school superintendents and assistant superintendents in New York State. It provides professional development opportunities and support to its more than 875 members and advocates for public education in New York State.

Dr. Tangorra has served on NYCOSS’s Executive Committee and is currently chair of the Federal Legislative Committee. He has been a frequent presenter for NYCOSS’s professional development organization, Leadership for Educational Achievement Foundation Inc. and is a member of NYCOSS’s Commission for Diversity and Inclusivity and Wellness Committee. For the last three years, he has also served on AASA’s Executive Committee, representing New York State at the national level.
