The efforts of Perry Junior High School students have helped to ensure animals at a local animal shelter are cared for while they wait for their forever home.

In March, students collected items for Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society, an organization based in Utica that provides a safe environment and medical care for animals who are surrendered, lost, unwanted, neglected, or abandoned in Oneida County.

Through their collection efforts, students donated dozens of items that are in high demand at the shelter, including dish soap, disinfectant wipes, towels, and pet toys.

The donation drive was hosted by Kindness Club in conjunction with Awareness Week, a week dedicated to raising awareness about social issues, mental health, and other important causes.

Kindness Club is open to all interested students in grades 7 through 9. The group works to increase education and awareness on various social topics that affect the lives of students, as well as promote a positive culture and climate based on knowledge, kindness and acceptance for all of its community members.
