Welcome to the Senior High!

Sophomores are encouraged to get involved in school activities. School activities are positive ways for students to invest time, thought, and energy. In addition to being fun, participation in extracurricular activities is an important factor in college admissions. Successful involvement in activities outside of the classroom indicates you are well-rounded, responsible, committed to a goal, have good time management skills, and can work well with others – characteristics that a college wants to see in an applicant. Participation in activities also enhances a student’s chance for success after college.

If a student is having difficulty in a particular subject during the school year, talking to the teacher is generally the first step to take. Many times the teacher may not perceive the student as being interested in extra help. The teacher is the first and best ally in improving performance in class. A very important goal throughout high school is the development of each student’s ability to self-advocate. This includes working through problems by learning how to seek help. As this goal is being developed, the counselors are always available to offer assistance, perhaps suggesting strategies on how to approach teachers and work through situations that may be difficult.

All parents will receive written communication from the school every 10 weeks regarding their student’s progress via Report Cards. Parents will not receive hard copies of Progress Reports.

Career Exploration: During November and April, students may be able to schedule a 1-day job shadowing experience through the School and Business Alliance (SABA). In December, sophomores will attend career exploration workshops with the high school counselors utilizing Naviance.
