The board is the official policy-making body of the school district. It is responsible for carrying out the laws and regulations pertaining to the education of students within the district. The board establishes district policy, reviews curriculum and programs of study, and approves the hiring of all personnel, as well as establishing the conditions of employment. The board is also responsible for developing an annual budget for public approval.
The New Hartford Board of Education is comprised of seven school district residents who are elected by voters to five-year terms. Board members are not financially compensated.
One candidate filed a nominating petition for the one available seat. The elected candidate will serve a five-year term, beginning July 1, 2023.
Linda Lark, of New Hartford, is seeking her second term on the board of education. She was elected to the board of education in 2017 and has served as the board’s vice president since 2020.
A district resident for 9 years, she and her spouse, Dr. Adam C. Lark, have two children who attend E.R. Hughes Elementary School (grade 5 and grade 6).
Linda earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo, College of Law. She is an attorney at a local non-profit organization and represents families in the Mohawk Valley. She is a member of numerous community groups, including professional associations for attorneys and organizations that promote education, the arts, and preservation.
Linda would like to continue serving as a board member to finish existing projects, such as building renovations, improving efficiency, and increasing instructional technology. Her primary goal is to implement the district’s strategic plan, especially to expand communication and collaboration between the district and the community. She has served on the Budget and Finance, Audit, and Public Relations committees and chairs the Policy Committee. Linda’s other board representative assignments have included PTA Council, Safety Committee, and Education Equity Committee (EEC).
