New Hartford Central School’s Music Education Program Receives National Recognition
New Hartford Central Schools has been honored with the 2018 Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, New Hartford Central School District answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs.
Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas. This award recognizes that New Hartford Central School is leading the way with learning opportunities as outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Research into music education continues to demonstrate educational/cognitive and social skill benefits for children who make music.
“It is because of the wonderful support of our parents, students, administration, and our great music staff that we continue to lead the region in music education,” New Hartford music department chair T.J. McAvaney said, “by producing high quality performances and a high caliber of student achievement in the performing arts.” McAvaney considers it an honor to work and serve in a community that values music as an important part of its school curriculum.
