• College Bridging Opportunities

     

    Hamilton College allows select high school students to participate in their Advanced Study Program with no tuition cost.  Students are, however, responsible for other costs associated with the course and the application fee.  Hamilton College has established two criteria for application to this program: 1) students must have completed all of the courses offered at the Senior High in a discipline, and 2) students must have earned a 5 on the Advanced Placement exam in the discipline.  For example, a student who has completed AP Calculus BC as a Junior and scored a 5 on the AP exam is eligible to apply for a Calculus course at Hamilton College as a Senior.  Students accepted into this program are generally students who have achieved at the honors level in high school.  Many classes are only available to New Hartford students if space is available after Hamilton College students are scheduled.

     

    MVCC College Connection is a scholarship program designed to allow a certain number of seniors from local schools to enroll in up to 2 course at MVCC during the fall, spring or summer semester. The course will be tuition free and the student would incur related expenses such as books, activity and technology fees. This opportunity is available through our ADP program for seniors. Students need to fill out the appropriate ADP paperwork in addition to the College Connection application.  Second semester juniors are also invited to participate in College Connection outside the school day.

     

    Utica College allows select students with 80+ GPA to take upto 2 courses each term (1 per summer session) for a fee plus any applicable course fees.   
     
     

     

     College Bridging Guidelines

     
    Students may participate in bridging opportunities during the school day at Hamilton College, MVCC, and Utica College during their Senior Year.  Students in their sophomore and junior year may be eligible to participate in the bridging opportunities during non New Hartford High School (NHHS) school hours.  The following parameters will be used to develop a schedule for a high school student who is concurrently enrolled in a college course:
     

    1.    Students are responsible for transportation to the college campus.

    2.    Students are expected to comply with any rules the college may have regarding high school students enrolling in their courses.

    3.   Students may only enroll in a college course through one of our bridging programs if NHHS does not have a comparable course available.

    4.    Seniors who take a college course during the school day can include the course as part of the minimum schedule requirement for the year. A college course generally counts as one-half credit toward the required 5.5-credit minimum (including Phys. Ed.).  The blended schedule must be developed to insure that students are not late for the start of a class at NHHS (the only exception to this is a lab component that meets at a different time from the class).  Seniors may leave a class at NHHS twenty minutes early, if necessary, to get to the college class on time.

    5.    Sophomores and juniors may bridge outside the school day.  Should there be an instance where a sophomore or junior is eligible to take a college course during the school day, the student must take the full schedule requirement at NHHS.  The blended schedule must be developed to insure that sophomores and juniors do not miss any instructional time at NHHS.

    6.    College courses taken during the school day will be shown on the student’s schedule.  Grades will be recorded on the student’s report card and transcript. 

    7.    College courses taken outside the school day are not considered part of the student’s program of study at NHHS and therefore will not show on the schedule or report card/transcript.

    8.    College grades will not be included in the marking period or cumulative GPA.

    9.    College courses do not fulfill graduation requirements and credit will NOT be awarded for college courses.
