Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Coffay

Hello!  My name is Melissa Coffay, and I teach 7th and 9th grade English at Perry Junior High School. I have been in the classroom since 2006, working for two years as a teaching assistant before obtaining my first teaching position. It has been my goal to teach in New Hartford as the district provided me with an unyielding education as a student. I was fortunate to have experienced, educated, and enthusiastic teachers who have helped to shape me into the person I am today. I am thrilled to embrace the opportunity to have this impact on my students in the district that I called home for so many years. I truly love my job and feel so fortunate to work with such an amazing team of professionals at Perry.

I am a 2002 graduate of New Hartford Senior High School. I graduated from Siena College in 2006, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in English. During my undergraduate studies, I was inducted into the Sigma Tau Delta National English Honor Society and graduated Cum Laude, earning placements on the Dean’s and President’s Lists throughout my four years of study at Siena. In June 2008, I completed my Master’s through Touro College, receiving my degree in General Education and Special Education for Grades 1-6. I currently hold four New York State Teaching Certificates: Students with Disabilities 1-6, Childhood Education 1-6, English 7-12, and Students with Disabilities 7-12 with a concentration in English.

I look forward to a wonderful 2020-2021 school year!
