Key Concepts in Grade 4 Math
Place value
- Understand that each place is 10 times the value of the next place

Multiplication
- Understand that multiplication is repeated addition
- Break apart factors and multiply using the distributive property. For example, 15 x 12 = (10 + 5) x (10 + 2) = (10 x 10) + (10 x 2) + (5 x 10) + (5 x 2)
- 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication
- 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication
