“I’ve known coach for more than two decades now.  His unparalleled commitment to New Hartford has left a lasting impact on our schools . . . When I think about the mark of a man, I think about the number of lives he has touched.  It’s crazy to think about the fact that coach retired in 1995, but is still active in our daily life at school.  He is a familiar face around the building . . .  always wearing Spartan red and blue, I might add! He continues to serve on various school committees, attends district meetings and works for school budget votes. Coach is the first person who greets you when you come to cast your ballot. He is always there when we call on him for help  . . .  [Don Edick Field] was dedicated in his honor for a lifetime of service to the children of New Hartford.  No wonder he is in the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame because his heart is bigger than the field that bears his name!   Coach is part of an era called the Greatest Generation.  He is a consummate gentleman with old fashioned, hand-shake values.  It was those values he brought to the field.”  Remarks by Superintendent Robert Nole, upon Coach Don Edick’s induction to The Genesis Group’s Educator Hall of Distinction, November 17, 2016.
