March 2017“New Hartford Teacher Center joins partners to raise Social Media Awareness”
The school district will host a presentation by Safe Schools Mohawk Valley
On March 29, 2017, the New Hartford Teacher Center invites parents, guardians, and caregivers to attend a presentation aimed at raising awareness about social media. Jeremy Butler, Chief Program Officer for Safe Schools Mohawk Valley, will present a workshop entitled “Social Media Awareness: What Every Parent Needs to Know.” The workshop, with discussion to follow, will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the James A. Meyers Performing Arts Center.
The presentation is appropriate for parents of children of all ages. As many parents are aware, technology advances at a rapid rate. Butler will teach parents, as well as educators, what they need to know about various forms of technology children are using at home and at school. Attendees will be able to distinguish social media, apps, games, as well as other forms of media. Planners of the event hope that this will promote a greater understanding of the exciting power of technology while balancing its potential with the essentials of child safety. Butler promises to engage the audience in an informative discussion to help build a useful framework for children to learn and grow as citizens in the cyberworld.
The event is free and open to the public. It is provided and sponsored by New Hartford Central Schools; the New Hartford branch of New York State Teacher Centers; New Hartford Central Schools PTA Council; Safe Schools Mohawk Valley; and New Hartford Central School ParentConnect.
