    Meet Ms. Martin

Hello!  Welcome to sixth grade.  I can't wait to get to know each of you this year.  Please allow me to take a moment to introduce myself so that you know a bit about me as well.  I've lived in the area my entire life, graduating from Vernon Verona Sherrill High School in 1990.  I attended Nazareth College from 1990-1994, and then earned my master's degree from Syracuse University in 1995.  New Hartford Central School was my next destination, where I have taught since 1995.  For three years I worked with AIS reading students at Bradley Elementary, before moving to the classroom.  I have taught sixth grade at Hughes since 2001 and couldn't be more excited about the students and teachers I work with every day.

huddy When I'm away from school I love to read, travel and spend time with Jammer, Mallex, and Quinn-my three Welsh Corgis.  I'm also an avid Atlanta Braves baseball and Syracuse University lacrosse fan and enjoy attending as many games as possible.

In our departmentalized model, I will teach sixth graders social studies and ELA.  Our units of study for the year are Agriculture, Religion, the Olympics, China and Rome, Islamic Spain, the Black Death, and Ancient Civilizations.  We will also be using novels in our ELA instruction.  HootBud, Not Buddy, The Lightning Thief, and Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! will comprise our units of study.
