I am so excited to be teaching for New Hartford! I came to New Hartford in the fall of 2011 to teach Latin, after a retirement. I have taught Latin 1-4, Personal Finance, Government, Computer Apps, and Intro to French during my years at New Hartford. This year I am teaching Computer Apps, Intro to Latin, Latin 1, Latin 2, and Latin 3. I also advise the Latin club at both the Junior High and the High School, which has been associated with the New York State Junior Classical League for over 35 years!
Before coming to New Hartford I taught Latin for two years at Beavercreek High School in Beavercreek, OH. I also taught Latin for a year for T.R.E.C.A. in Ohio, an online charter public school. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Latin Education at Bowling Green State University, in Bowling Green, Ohio. I also completed a Certification Program in Social Studies at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH. I earned my Master of Arts in Education with a specialization in Best Practices from National University, CA. I hold teaching certificates in Latin 7-12, Social Studies 7-12, and French 7-12 as well.
I belong to several professional organizations that allow me to network, learn and share with wonderful colleagues across the state and nation. I'm on the Executive Board of CAES (Classical Association of the Empire State), President of ATLAS (Association of Teachers of Latin Around Syracuse), a Building Representative for Perry in the New Hartford Teacher's Union, and also a member of NYSUT (New York State Union of Teachers), AAFT (American Association of French Teachers), NYSAFLT (New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers), ACL (American Classical League), CAWNY (Classical Association of Western New York), and ACTFL (American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages).
I got married in 2014 on July 12th, Julius Caesar's birthday and honeymooned in Rome, Italy. I helped chaperone a trip to France and Spain with Mrs. Grimmer in the summer of 2015 and hope to lead a trip to Spain, France, and Italy in the near future. I am an outdoor enthusiast and enjoy camping, hiking, & kayaking. I love New York State's snow! Traveling is another passion of mine and I love to explore new places, cultures, and meet new people. I live in Canastota and have two cats, Nala who is 13 years old and Bailey who is 4 years old. When I lived in Ohio my family ran a wildlife rehabilitation center and now run one in Chittenango, NY as well where we help to return orphaned mammals to the wild. We rehabilitated skunks, opossums, fox squirrels, gray squirrels, red squirrels, flying squirrels, woodchucks, fawns, rabbits, and raccoons (which became our favorite to work with). My sisters have both worked at the Wild Animal Park in Chittenango, and my family helps raise some of the baby animals before they are old enough to be on display, such as elk, antelope and otters.
