Ms. Kathy Donovan

STEM Elementary Enrichment Educator

"Two of my most favorite things to do are working in the Apple Operating System and working with children. Both offer a creative platform to foster my growth as an educator and a person. Each day things are always evolving and changing in technology and in each child. I feel blessed to work in an environment which helps me witness the growth of my students through the serendipidous nature of computer technology.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) pathway emphasis in education has motivated me to learn more about computer coding, creating and inventing, failing and relearning. I believe hands-on learning is of great importance in this ever-changing 21st century digital arena, and I am fortunate to provide these learning opportunities to my elementary students.

A favorite quote:

"You cannot transmit wisdom and insight to another person. The seed is already there. A good teacher touches the seed, allowing it to wake up, to sprout, and to grow."

Do you have any children?

Yes, I am a mother of two college-aged young men.

What do you like to do?

I like to be creative in just about everytihng I do. I use the computer in my graphic design work, I paint and also sculpt in clay. I have studied with NY sculptor James McDermid who has become my main mentor in my fine art work. I am currently a resident studio artist at 4 Elements Studio in Utica, NY.

What did you do before you started teaching computer technology?

I was an Art Director at a trade association in Connecticut. I was in charge of designing brochures, newsletters and other print material as well as making sure everything was done on time. I moved up to Central New York with my husband in 1996.

What do you want to learn more about?
I LOVE to learn during my summers off of teaching in the classroom I fill this time with new getting involved in new learning experiences. Specifically, I am learning more about Constructivism and the Maker Movement, and all the new skills that come along with it. I am a maker myself and although I still paint and draw I would like to eventually like to extend my academic training in the Arts and achieve my Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) degree.
